Industry pain points and challenges
Understand the core issues in this application scenario and how we can provide solutions through advanced display technology
core pain point
Color Shift and DICOM Calibration Maintenance
Over time, LCD panels experience backlight yellowing, with the color temperature gradually shifting warmer from 6500K, affecting tissue color interpretation. The DICOM Part 14 standard requires strict correspondence between grayscale values and display brightness. Without automatic sensor calibration after aging, manual recalibration is necessary periodically, resulting in high costs. Multiple screens in the same department may not accurately match colors, leading to discrepancies in the presentation of the same image on different workstations, increasing the risk of misdiagnosis during consultations.
Backlight Uniformity and Brightness Decay
Edge brightness is 10–20% lower than the center, creating a "dark corner" effect that can cause misreading in edge areas of ultrasound images. Inconsistent aging of LED backlight chips: Consumer-grade screens experience brightness decay to 87% of their initial value after 18 months; medical-grade screens require mandatory "brightness margin" compensation in their design. Edge-lit structures, in a 23.8" size, have a longer light guide path, making uniformity control significantly more difficult than with direct-lit structures.
Contrast Ratio Limitations and Black Level Performance
IPS LCDs have a contrast ratio of approximately 1000:1. However, the backlight cannot be completely turned off, resulting in light leakage at the black level, which makes them inferior to OLEDs in recognizing details in dark areas (such as bile ducts and small lesions). While Mini-LED local dimming can improve local contrast, there is an engineering challenge in balancing the number of local dimming zones required for a 23.8" screen with cost. High-brightness mode (1000 nits+) under strong ambient light in operating rooms is inversely related to contrast ratio; achieving both simultaneously is extremely technically challenging.
Product Lifecycle and Supply Chain Disruptions
Medical device certification (FDA 510k, IEC 60601) takes 1-3 years. If a panel model is discontinued, the entire device must be recertified, incurring extremely high costs. The market demands a panel supply lifespan of over 5-10 years, but consumer LCD production lines only have a 2-3 year iteration cycle. Medical OEMs face a severe risk of supply disruptions. 23.8" is a shared size for both consumer and medical applications. Panel manufacturers prioritize supplying the high-margin consumer market, leaving them with weak bargaining power for small-batch medical orders.
Conflict between Protection and Heat Dissipation Design
The IP65 front panel waterproof requirement clashes with the internal heat dissipation channel design: better sealing leads to more severe heat buildup, directly shortening the LED backlight lifespan. Fanless design is a mandatory requirement for ICUs and cleanrooms, but passive heat dissipation solutions for 1000-nit high-brightness backlights are costly in terms of size and weight. Long-term corrosion of the touchscreen coating (AG anti-glare layer) by disinfectants leads to decreased light transmittance, touch malfunction, and higher maintenance frequency than ordinary industrial screens.
Our technological advantages
We provide industry-leading display technology and customized solutions to meet the special requirements of this application scenario
Full-area direct-lit backlight + dynamic zone compensation, brightness uniformity ≥ 90%
Addressing the core pain point of vignetting at the 23.8" edges, HITU employs a self-developed UniLight™ direct-lit backlight architecture, coupled with 512 independent zone drivers and a real-time brightness sensor feedback loop, controlling the brightness difference between the center and four corners of the screen to within 10%, far exceeding the 20% threshold required by the industry AAPM TG18 standard, ensuring consistency in ultrasound imaging diagnosis between the edge and center areas.
Automatic color temperature calibration + DICOM closed-loop management, ΔE < 2 maintained throughout the entire lifecycle
Addressing two major clinical pain points—LCD color "yellowing" aging and color difference across multiple screens—HITU is equipped with a ChromaLock™ front-facing spectral sensor. It automatically performs DICOM Part 14 grayscale calibration every 4 hours and synchronizes the color parameters of multiple screens via a local area network, achieving a high degree of consistency in image display across all workstations in the same department and eliminating the risk of misjudgment due to color difference during consultations.
Fanless heat pipe cooling + medical-grade sealing, stable thermal operation 24/7 under IP65 protection
Addressing the core engineering contradiction in medical environments where "better protection means more difficulty in heat dissipation," HITU's unique ArmorSeal™ dual heat pipe vapor chamber passive cooling architecture keeps the 1000 nit backlight operating temperature below 45°C while being completely fanless and having an IP65 sealed front panel. Meanwhile, the front cover features an anti-silver ion antibacterial coating (ISO 22196 certified), capable of withstanding over 2000 swabs with chlorine-containing disinfectants, meeting the highest level of infection control requirements for ICUs and operating rooms.
